Pro Bono Dental Work for Holocaust Survivors

The noted dentist Dr. Eli Friedman of Friedman Dental Group joins Dentists Assisting Survivors of the Holocaust. The program matches survivors in need of dental care with pro bono dentists willing to volunteer their time.

Dr. Eli Friedman of Friedman Dental Group announced earlier this week that he has signed up for an innovative program entitled Dentists Assisting Survivors of the Holocaust. The program, that was coordinated by the Goodman Jewish Family Services of Broward County takes one of over 600 Holocaust survivors who are registered at the agency and matches them with dentists who are offering to volunteer their time to perform free dental cleanings, root canals, bridgework, extractions, and other treatments including restorative dentistry like dental implants.

The Holocaust survivors now in their 80s and 90s, suffered from several maladies during World War II including severe malnutrition. Many were burdened by long-term physical issues including the deterioration of their teeth. With additional challenges such as lack of insurance or income, their health and teeth are currently in worse condition than the average senior. According to the Jewish Federations of North America, about 30,000 Holocaust survivors within the United States live below the poverty line and 17,000 of them live in South Florida.

I have family members who are holocaust survivors, so participating in a program like this means a lot to me as it is on a personal level.

Dr. Eli Friedman, Prosthodontist

I have family members who are holocaust survivors, so participating in a program like this means a lot to me as it is on a personal level.” said Dr. Eli Friedman of Friedman Dental Group. “When I think about the hardships that these heroic individuals went through to ensure their families had better futures, I want to do anything I can to thank them. Being a part of Dentists Assisting Survivors of the Holocaust allows Friedman Dental to make a difference in the lives of these survivors. By providing pro bono dental work, we can help give them a better smile and in turn a better life, something I wish was offered. So far the program has treated over 600 patients and we look forward to many more.
